Road Warriors

We took a very last minute road trip to Utah in the end of March/beginning of April. Jake is really quite the road warrior. This shouldn't surprise me too much as I really love life on the road and Alan is sort of used to taking long drives to get to family so Jake comes by it honestly.

We stayed in a cute little hotel at the "halfway" mark and I'm SOOO glad we did! Jake did awesome! The next morning we went swimming and he was NOT sure what to think about it. The pool water was a little cold and he couldn't touch the bottom...he was sad... When we got into the hot tub though he thought that was pretty swell:)

It was on this trip Jake discovered his love for sunglasses. He will wear them as often as we let him as long as we let him. He says "Gasses...cool dude".

Jas and Katy were awesome about taking us in and we had a great time hanging out with them. Up to this point Jake has felt a little nervous about us leaving him places, but he didn't even notice we were gone most of the time he was with them. He adored his cousins, loved being tormented by his uncle, and couldn't get enough of his aunt...Funny...I felt much the same way:)

We took Jake out swimming again with the Jones' and (as you can see) he thought it was much better this time:) There is much shallower water and lots of toys and a lazy river and tons of kids...Good times all around.

They even had a duck slide which we thought he would LOVE becuase slides are the joy of his life at the park across from our house...

He was pretty much non-plussed...like he was putting up with it becuase WE wanted to but he could take it or leave it...

On the drive back we decided that we wanted to try and find the place we got engaged. We knew the city it was in and that it was just off one of the exits, but on our cross country trips we have never seen anything that looked familiar. We couldn't remember the name of the place we stayed or even the restuarant we were eating at when we decided that maybe we DID like each other enough to try the long distance thing...and then Alan's mom called and said that we couldn't drive through becuase of the aweful weather and so we ended up here...

The Howard Johnson in Laramie...Yea...! A couple hours after we decided maybe the long distance thing was worth trying out...we decided it wasn't and that we should not only live in the same state, but under the same roof. Though I've always hoped that the man I married would be all about details and plan everything out all sweet and surprise-like...I'm so grateful to be with Alan and really...he pulled the ULTIMATE surprise...HE didn't even know it was coming...how much better can it get? I wouldn't trade my "surprise" proposal in Wyoming for anything!!!

We ate in the same restaurant as our first meal as an engaged couple...Jake spent the meal doing laps around the island and not eating anything...and I think he was the smartest of us all:) I don't know if it was the engagement buzz or what...but...let's just say we weren't impressed this time AT ALL... :)

I'm glad you were able to make the trip for the funeral - important times. And what a fun memory trip - new ones and remembering old ones.

I really enjoyed this post. I love your story of how you two fell in love... I'm sure someday Jake will too.
